The beauty of ignorance

I ought to rewrite the title. I meant the consciousness of one’s ignorance.

What happens when we know, or think we know? At times, we become full of ourselves, closing ourselves to the light-the animating power of new knowledge.

It might be true that knowledge is power. I believe ignorance can be the fuel for growth. In a sense, our knowledge is provisional. That is why a lot of theories get discarded. This dynamism is inevitable, because true seekers know that knowledge is infinite.

The dynamism and magnitude of knowledge, are pointers to the fact that humility is one of the key virtues of the truly wise. Why? Based on what tomorrow will bring, we may have to add or subtract from what we celebrated as Gospel truth yesterday. At times, we have to completely cast it away.

Thus, it is vital to be constantly aware of how little we really know, and to remain in perpetual hunger, because our growth is inextricably tied to our awareness of our ignorance.
